ArtSox – Head of a Skeleton with a Burning Cigarette
Possibly the least sensible painting on the list.
Vincent van Gogh painted Head of a Skeleton with a Burning Cigarette while studying at the art academy in Antwerp in 1886. Drawing skeletons was part of the anatomy training, but painting one smoking a cigarette was very much Van Gogh doing his own thing.
The black sock carries the skull and cigarette in striking detail, making this one of the more unusual designs in the MuseARTa collection.
The artwork is knitted directly into the sock using 200-needle machinery and finished with a hand-linked toe.
