Hand made by Michael May in the Portland Works, Sheffield, these luxurious pocket knives really are a work of art.
Sheffield is famous for its steel works and the historic Portland Works are the home of the first stainless steel cutlery ever to be made in England.
The exclusive Furbellow & Co knife is made to order by Michael. It’s handle is made from Whitby Jet and Yew and the blade is made from Damascus steel in a Lambs foot pattern which is a traditional English blade style. The bade is stamped with both the maker’s name and F & Co.
Damascus steel was the forged steel comprising the blades of swords imported from India and Sri Lanka. These swords are characterized by distinctive patterns of banding and mottling reminiscent of flowing water. Such blades were reputed to be tough, resistant to shattering, and capable of being honed to a sharp, resilient edge.
